Abu Dhabi is one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year.  Second only to Dubai in terms of population, Abu Dhabi is renowned the world over for being a centre for shopping, with hundreds of malls, shopping centres, markets and world class stores within it's precincts.  The city has plenty of sightseeing opportunities to offer visitors, from old forts and tombs to the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque to the Emirates Palace Hotel.  Further afield lie great swathes of sand that can be explored in camel tours, or fantastic reefs and beaches that provide a great opportunity to sunbathe or go diving.  It is really the shopping that makes Abu Dhabi an international destination, however, with the Marina Mall, the Abu Dhabi Mall, and the Al Wahda Mall amongst the most popular.

Abu Dhabi is serviced by Abu Dhabi International Airport which sees close to six and a half million passengers through it's two terminals (a third is under construction) each year.  The airport is visited by a large number of international airlines, including British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Etihad (which uses the airport as a base).  As Abu Dhabi does not yet have a comprehensive public transport system it is advisable to rent a car on arrival.  Avis, Europcar, Hertz and an array of local rental companies provide services at the airport, or alternatively can drop your car at your hotel for ease of collection.
